Booking and the mobile visit
How long does a windshield chip repair take?
Most appointments run about 20 to 40 minutes from arrival to finished repair. Multiple chips, heavy contamination or awkward access can extend that, and we will tell you in advance if we expect it to.
Do you come to my home or workplace?
Yes, that is the entire model. We repair at your driveway, workplace parking or job site anywhere in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Morgan Hill and South San Jose. There is no shop to visit.
How do I know if my chip can be repaired?
Send a clear photo by text or through the quote form. Size, depth, location, age and contamination decide it, and we give you a preliminary answer from the photo before anything is booked. The final confirmation happens on site.
Will the chip be invisible afterwards?
No, and be wary of anyone who promises that. A proper repair restores strength and stops the damage spreading, and it usually improves the appearance a lot, but a faint mark almost always remains at the impact point.
Should I repair a chip or wait?
Sooner is better. Temperature swings, vibration and moisture all work on an open chip, and once it runs into a long crack, repair is off the table entirely. Fresh, clean chips also bond better and look better after repair.

Damage, repairability and results
What types of damage can you repair?
Bullseye chips, star breaks, combination breaks and small impact points in laminated windshield glass, within workable size limits. Long cracks, damage through to the inner glass layer, and chips previously filled with DIY kits are generally not repairable.
Do you repair cracks?
Short crack extensions from a chip can sometimes be stabilised, but long or spreading cracks cannot be reliably repaired and usually mean replacement. We will be straight with you about which side of the line your damage falls on.
Do you replace windshields or do other auto glass work?
No. Mr. Chip is windshield chip repair only. No replacement, no side or back glass, no ADAS calibration. If you need those, we will say so and you can arrange them with a replacement specialist.
What does it cost?
We quote before booking, from your photo, so you know the price before anyone commits to anything. There are no call-out fees within our service area and no surprise add-ons on the day.
Practicalities
On the day, and afterwards
Do I need to be present during the repair?
Not necessarily. The vehicle needs to be accessible and either attended or left unlocked by arrangement. Many customers have the repair done at work while they are at their desk.
What if it rains on the day?
The glass needs to be dry for resin to bond. A garage or carport solves it; otherwise we may need to shift the appointment. We watch the forecast and will contact you rather than turn up and do a compromised job.
Can I drive immediately after the repair?
Yes. The resin is UV-cured and finished on site, so the windshield is ready for normal driving as soon as we are done.
Will my insurance cover the repair?
Many comprehensive policies cover chip repair, sometimes without a deductible, but policies vary and we are not an insurance advisor. Check with your insurer; we are happy to provide a receipt and photos of the damage and repair for your claim.
What if you arrive and the chip cannot be repaired after all?
We tell you, explain why, and you are not charged for a repair we did not perform. That happens rarely, because the photo assessment filters most of it out in advance.
